EAC to harmonise inspections for major agricultural exports - The EastAfrican

The East African Community (EAC) has finalized harmonized Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) frameworks and Standard Operating Procedures for four priority crops: soybeans, groundnuts, pineapples, and avocados. The aim is to reduce non-tariff barriers while protecting the region from pests. The documents were completed during a four-day technical workshop in Kampala (May 26-29) and will be submitted to the EAC Sectoral Committee on Agriculture for adoption. According to David Wafula, EAC's CAADP coordinator, 65% of intra-regional trade is agricultural, and these measures aim to speed up border crossings.
