Lassa fever deaths rise in Nigeria — NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) reported a rise in Lassa fever deaths in 2026, with 167 fatalities recorded so far. Although 26 new confirmed cases were reported in Epidemiological Week 13, a decrease from 51 cases the previous week, the case fatality rate has reached 25.2%, up from 18.5% last year. Young adults aged 21 to 30 are the most affected group, accounting for 85% of confirmed cases in the most impacted states.
