Community health workers get dedicated medical insurance cover

Kenya's National Treasury has allocated Sh396 million for a dedicated medical insurance scheme for Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in the 2026/27 budget, marking the first time such funding is included in the national budget. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi also proposed Sh3.2 billion for CHP stipends. Over 107,800 CHPs are deployed across all 47 counties, each covering about 100 households. Since their rollout in October 2023, they have reached 2.7 million households and screened more than 1.1 million people for high blood pressure.
