Could the US take control of Iran’s southern islands?

US forces have struck Iran's Qeshm, Kish and Abu Musa islands, as well as southern port cities including Bandar Abbas. In March, US officials said the Department of Defense was preparing for raids on Kharg Island, through which 90% of Iran's oil exports pass. Speculation died down after a June 17 memorandum of understanding but revived when President Donald Trump refused to rule out such an operation in a Fox News interview.
