Bishop of Butembo-Beni denounces the 'lightness' of authorities facing insecurity in Beni

The bishop of Butembo-Beni, Monsignor Sikuli Paluku Melchisédech, denounced on June 3 the 'lightness' of authorities regarding insecurity in Beni, after about fifty civilians were killed between May 30 and June 6. He points to a gap between the security emergencies of the population and political priorities, mentioning ADF attacks in Mbau, Biakato, and Makumo, as well as rising urban banditry in Butembo and Beni. The insecurity severely impacts education, health, agriculture, and livestock.
