On June 11, 2026, the Médina district police arrested an individual from Liberté 1 for clandestine slaughter and attempting to sell meat unfit for consumption. The man was caught transporting the carcass of a sheep in advanced decomposition in a pushcart after butchering it at the intersection of Rue 1 and Avenue Blaise-Diagne. He confessed to slaughtering the animal after its death to sell part of the meat to a merchant in the Rebeuss neighborhood. The seized meat will be destroyed by hygiene services, and the suspect is in custody pending a judicial investigation.
