The Metropolitan Police is calling on tech firms to make stolen phones harder to reuse. Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has asked for legislation to force phone companies to publish data and enforce measures. The force has started sharing data with Apple to build a global picture. The number of phone thefts fell by 18% between June 2025 and May 2026.
