Microfinance and mobile money: Dakar crowned champion of UEMOA ahead of Abidjan

Senegal was named the champion of microfinance and electronic money within UEMOA in 2025, holding 26.5% of the region's microfinance assets. The country has 81 large microfinance institutions, the highest number in the Union, and concentrates 29.7% of the regional electronic money volume. By the end of 2025, UEMOA recorded 14.66 million microfinance accounts, with Senegal accounting for 15.5% of this total.
