The economic cost of climate risks in Kenya amounts to billions of shillings, with flood losses ranging between Sh10 billion and Sh30 billion annually. In 2025, reported insured flood claims stood at approximately Sh5 billion, while 57% of exposures remain uninsured. Efforts are underway to mitigate these risks, particularly through index-based insurance solutions utilizing recent technologies such as AI and data analytics.
