Major water transfer project: Hydraulics Ministry denies any suspension

Senegal’s Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation, led by Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, says the Grand Water Transfer program has “neither been cancelled nor suspended.” By the end of 2026, World Bank-funded work is due to secure Lake Guiers, including rehabilitation of the Richard Toll regulation structure and embankment works near CSS, Pakh and Bontou Bath. The ministry says budget adjustments under the 2026 supplementary finance law reflect the schedule for committing and disbursing funds, not an abandonment of the project. Work on the main transfer is expected to begin during 2027, as financing and preparatory procedures continue.
