Tope Alabi threatens legal action over online defamation

Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has threatened legal action against people who publish or circulate online statements she considers false and defamatory. In a notice shared on her Instagram page on October 23, 2026, her lawyers, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, said she was protecting a reputation built over nearly 30 years. They warned that liability could also extend to people who repost the statements or use anonymous accounts, and called for the removal of material deemed defamatory. Potential remedies include damages, injunctions, retractions, public apologies and legal costs, while the notice said it was not intended to restrict truthful statements or legitimate criticism.
