Otedola Bridge Fire: Federal Government Considers Weighbridges on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Following Monday’s tanker fire at Otedola Bridge, Lagos Federal Controller of Works Olufemi Dare said a proposal to install weighbridges on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway would be submitted to Works Minister Dave Umahi within a week. The facilities would help monitor truck weights and braking systems to curb overloading and accidents. Preliminary accounts say a fully loaded tanker rolled backwards after colliding with another vehicle and fell beneath the bridge, which will undergo a structural assessment. Authorities from Lagos and Ogun states plan to hold an expanded stakeholders’ meeting in mid-November to address crashes, illegal parking and theft of road infrastructure.
