Passenger rail returns to Garden Route after 16 years

A heritage passenger train journey from George to Great Brak River over the weekend marked the return of passenger rail on the line after 16 years. The initiative by Ceres Rail Company saw strong public support, with four weekend trips sold out, each carrying about 350 passengers along the 35-kilometer route. Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku welcomed the return, highlighting rail's role in connecting communities and boosting tourism. Rick Botha, Managing Director of Ceres Rail Company, said the success followed years of planning and collaboration with Transnet.
