A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck the southern Philippines early Monday, killing at least four people and injuring more than 200. The quake, centered near General Santos, damaged buildings and a key bridge. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged people to move to higher ground due to tsunami risk, and tsunami alerts were also issued in Indonesia and Malaysia. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the earthquake was caused by movement in the Cotabato Trench at a depth of 10 kilometers.
