DSS frees Sowore's media aide detained over drone

The DSS released Omoyele Sowore's media aide Zainab Sodiq, who was arrested for possessing a drone. IPI Nigeria announced her release on Friday evening after their intervention. Sodiq was intercepted at Lagos airport on July 6, 2026. The IPI Nigeria president welcomed the release and called for respect of journalists' rights.

Troops rescue ASP, six kidnapped travelers in Plateau

Troops of the Nigerian Army rescued an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and six other travelers abducted on Monday in Sopp village, Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State. The operation was carried out by troops under Sector 6 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) following a distress call at 9:30 p.m. The victims, including ASP Babagida Ishaku, were intercepted while traveling from Akwanga, Nasarawa State, to Jos. All were rescued unharmed after a firefight with the kidnappers, who fled.

MPs slam ‘watered down’ Ad Hoc report

Members of the Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi described the second draft preliminary report as 'watered down' and not reflecting the evidence led before it.
