Revealing the truth: Ethical misconduct in South African psychology

According to new international research including Prof Nico Nortje from the University of the Western Cape, fraud accounted for 83% of ethical transgressions by South African psychologists between 2014 and 2023. Fraudulent billing, including charging for services not provided, is the most common form. Gauteng, home to 45% of psychologists, recorded 74.2% of sanctions. The study, published in the South African Journal of Psychology, shows a slight decline in transgressions.
