A Ugandan journalist, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo, was crowned king of the Tooro Kingdom following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV in August. The coronation took place in Fort Portal, with President Yoweri Museveni urging traditional leaders to promote local languages. Queen mother Best Kemigisa challenged the legitimacy of the crown, claiming that a young son of the late king Oyo might be the rightful heir. Nyabongo, selected by elders from the Babiito clan, pledged to be a unifying leader and uphold cultural heritage.
