Southern Philippines hit by 7.8-magnitude earthquake

A 7.8-magnitude offshore earthquake struck the southern Philippines on June 8, 2026, killing at least 35 people and injuring over 200. The epicenter was off Mindanao near Maasim. Several buildings collapsed in General Santos, and a landslide in Glan killed 13 villagers. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr canceled classes and mobilized disaster response.
