On June 8, 2026, a study by researchers from the universities of Reading, Harvard, and California, published in Food and Function, analyzed dietary habits of over 30,000 people in the UK and US. It found that sufficient flavanol intake (about 500 mg per day) reduces the risk of heart disease and related deaths. Fewer than 20% of participants reach this beneficial level. Plums, cranberries, blackberries, fava beans, cherries, and apples are among the richest sources.
