Uganda drought: Sixteen starve to death as key crops fail

At least 16 people have died from hunger in the Karamoja region of north-eastern Uganda due to a prolonged drought. Crops of maize, sorghum and soybeans have been destroyed by lack of rain since April. The government is distributing emergency food aid and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja is seeking cabinet approval to buy more supplies. Experts are calling for better forecasting, investment in irrigation and drought-resistant crops.
