Senegal: First Conviction Under New Anti-Homosexuality Law

In Senegal, a 24-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison and fined two million CFA francs by the Pikine-Guédiawaye court, marking the first application of the new anti-homosexuality law enacted by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. This law, adopted in March, increases penalties for homosexuality to between five and ten years in prison and introduces sanctions for the 'promotion' of homosexuality. Since February, several dozen people have been arrested, often following denunciations or the exploitation of personal content.
