New Displacements After Clashes in Walikale Territory (North Kivu)

On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the FARDC, supported by Wazalendo fighters, clashed with rebels of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN) in the Kisimba groupement of Walikale territory. Fighting began over the weekend in Katobo and Butsimula before spreading, and included clashes near the strategic Tchad hill in Luola, where gunfire was heard from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. After retaking Rushihe hill on Monday, the Congolese army faced a new FRN offensive; the rebels were reportedly retreating toward Ihula. Several residents fled to Ihula or sought refuge in the bush, as the situation remained tense and unpredictable on Wednesday.
