Seydi Gassama’s Unexpected New Warnings on the Macky Sall Case

Seydi Gassama, executive director of Amnesty International Senegal, commented on Facebook about possible legal proceedings against former president Macky Sall. He said opening cases solely to prevent Sall from taking part in an election would amount to using the justice system for political purposes, a practice Senegalese people should not accept. Gassama nevertheless called for an investigation into serious human rights violations under Sall’s government. If the investigation establishes Sall’s personal responsibility, he should be prosecuted, Gassama said.
