Environmentalist Truphena Muthoni hugged 1,234 trees on May 8, 2026, at Jardim Botânico Brasília, setting a new Guinness World Record for the most trees hugged in one hour. The previous record was 1,123 trees, held by Abubakar Tahiru from Ghana. The event was attended by Dr. Andrew Karanja, Kenyan Ambassador to Brazil, and other dignitaries. Truphena aimed to plant 1,172 trees as part of her Environmental Awareness Tour.
