NMA urges Fubara to recruit more healthcare workers in Rivers

The Nigerian Medical Association’s Rivers State branch urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to recruit more healthcare workers so staffing keeps pace with investment in health infrastructure. Chairperson Dr. Ureh Oparaodu praised higher doctors’ salaries and expanded facilities, including the zonal hospital in Omoku, which is expected to improve access to secondary care in the Orashi region. She said improved pay is attracting doctors from other states to Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, but could not provide exact figures on doctor departures. Oparaodu also outlined the NMA’s anti-quackery work with the state Ministry of Health and stressed the importance of public education about unqualified practitioners.
