Djokovic wins Basel opener to boost ATP Finals bid

Novak Djokovic defeated France’s Ugo Humbert 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in Basel on Wednesday after dropping the first set. The win, in his first appearance at the tournament since 2011, strengthened his bid to qualify for the ATP Finals, which he has won seven times. After an early exit in Shanghai left him 11th in the Race to Turin standings, Djokovic will face Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff next; he leads their head-to-head record 8-0.
