NYSC kidnapping: Suspects’ identities vindicate us, IPOB says

After five suspects were arraigned over the abduction of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway in Imo State, IPOB called for a thorough investigation. The group said the suspects—Usman Aliyu, Babangida Aliyu, Mohammed Ali, Aminu Haliru and Ibrahim Jiji—underscore that crimes should not be blamed on IPOB or the Eastern Security Network (ESN) without evidence. Ohanaeze Ndigbo Canada is urging Igbo voters in Nigeria and the diaspora to prioritise participation in the 2027 presidential election over festive activities. Its president, Chief Dr Anicetus Nwizundu, advised those travelling home for Christmas or New Year to arrange to return to their polling locations before the vote, scheduled for January 16, 2027. The group is not endorsing any party or candidate and called for peaceful voting based on individual choices. It said participation could help shape governance amid the country’s economic challenges.
