Nigeria has no Ebola cases after patient's evacuation to Switzerland, WHO says

WHO Regional Director for Africa Dr Mohamed Janabi said Nigeria currently has no Ebola cases after a patient and her husband, both Swiss citizens, were evacuated to Switzerland. The patient was clinically stable after Nigerian medical teams managed her through the acute phase of the illness. Nigeria will continue monitoring 52 contacts, while Switzerland will manage the patient and follow up with contact number 53, her husband. Janabi praised the health response and urged continued vigilance.

Nigeria Could Declare Ebola Outbreak Over by December 7, Pate Says

Nigeria’s health minister, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, said the country could declare the Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak over on December 7, 2026, if no further confirmed or probable cases are detected. The 42-day countdown began after the imported index patient was medically evacuated to Switzerland on October 26 and must be validated by the NCDC and WHO. Authorities are continuing contact tracing, investigating alerts and strengthening health-facility preparedness.
