Eastern DR Congo: Journalist and two other travelers killed on Bukavu-Walikale road

Laurent Vainqueur Muliro, a journalist with Walikale Amka community radio, was shot dead on October 21 in an ambush near Bitale, in Kalehe territory, South Kivu. Two other travelers—an student heading to Kisangani and a motorcycle-taxi driver—were also killed, and two people were seriously injured. Assailants described as suspected Wazalendo militiamen opened fire on a convoy of about ten motorcycles and robbed passengers of their belongings and a large sum of money. The convoy was using an alternative route after rebels from the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation closed the Goma-Walikale road.
