Dakar Governor requisitions SENELEC staff; employees who refuse to comply face serious consequences

An order by Dakar’s Governor requisitions certain SENELEC employees from October 21 to 23 to ensure continuity of essential public services. Under Senegal’s April 29, 1969 law on requisitions, employees named in the order and properly notified who fail to report may face criminal prosecution and disciplinary sanctions. Their right to strike is suspended for the duration of the requisition, and workplace penalties may be severe. SENELEC’s director general is responsible for notifying the employees concerned.
