‘I’ll be back in a few weeks’: Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martínez after surgery

Emi Martínez underwent surgery after suffering a head injury during Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton on Saturday. The 34-year-old Argentina goalkeeper collided with Jarrad Branthwaite in the 67th minute and was stretchered off on oxygen before being replaced by Mike Penders. Martínez said on social media that the operation had gone well and that he expected to return in a few weeks; Xabi Alonso said he was conscious and had been taken to hospital for precautionary examinations. Pedro Neto scored both goals as Chelsea recorded their first clean sheet of the season and ended Everton’s unbeaten start.
