Ivory Coast: 12 charged a year after gendarme’s murder

Twelve people have been charged and placed in pretrial detention nearly a year after Second Lieutenant Daniogo Klênon Lacina was killed by armed men on October 20, 2025, while patrolling the Grand Yapo–Agboville road. Prosecutor Oumar Braman Koné said the suspects admitted involvement, and the alleged shooter confessed to opening fire on the gendarmes. The case is before the anti-terrorism chamber of the Abidjan court, with charges including murder, terrorism and participation in an insurrectionary movement. The proceedings come a year after election-related violence that officially killed eleven people, amid the contested reelection of Alassane Ouattara.
