The European Union will give Côte d’Ivoire €3 million to develop lagoon transport in Abidjan. The funding is intended to support the construction of 13 lagoon stations and the acquisition of 25 water buses, although no timeline was announced. Transport and Maritime Affairs Minister Amadou Koné announced the grant on 20 October 2026 at the opening of the second International Conference on Sustainable Mobility and Climate in Abidjan. Lagoon services are expected to join the metro, BRT lines and buses in an integrated transport network for Greater Abidjan.
