Pitoa: Two brothers suspected of exhuming their cousin to sell his bones

Raphaël N., 28, was arrested on October 10, 2026, in the Ngousso district of Yaoundé with a bag of human remains believed to be those of his cousin, who was buried near Pitoa two years earlier. His older brother, Moustapha M., 31, is suspected of helping exhume the body and was arrested in the Northern Region. Lieutenant Claude Mboutou said that an initial portion of the skeleton was allegedly sold in Garoua for three million CFA francs, while the remaining bones were intended for sale in Yaoundé. The alleged buyer, described as a drug trafficker, fled during the gendarmes’ operation; investigators are searching for him and looking into possible accomplices.
