What language should former political leaders adopt?

The programme « C’est le ton qui fait la panique » examines how former political leaders should speak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In a speech on October 9, former president Joseph Kabila denounced abuses by the current government and said, “The country is in peril; not acting is being complicit.” His announcement a few days later that he had taken a leading role in a politico-military movement prompted reactions in Congo and abroad: some criticized his bellicose tone, while others accused him of planning a coup to overthrow the Kinshasa government. Jody Daniel Nkashama and Thérèse Kanku discuss the issue with political scientist Jean-Bedel Iyoka.
