Arbitration: 11.7 billion CFA francs seized as Cameroon loses again

On October 5, 2026, the Paris Judicial Court rejected Cameroon’s request to annul the seizure of 11.7 billion CFA francs, equivalent to 17.8 million euros. The amount stems from a September 22, 2021 arbitration award by the International Chamber of Commerce ordering Yaoundé to pay Projet Pilote Garoubé for the abusive termination of a lease-management contract. The dispute dates back to a contract signed in 2001, while a settlement agreement considered in 2023 fell through. The seizure therefore remains in place for the benefit of the CFS 37 fund.
