‘I don’t hate Igbos’, UCTH CMD denies ethnic bias in House Officers recruitment

The Chief Medical Director of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Prof. Ikpeme Ikpeme, dismissed allegations of ethnic discrimination in the recruitment of house officers, stating that the hospital does not target any ethnic group. He highlighted recent gestures, such as naming a ward after an Igbo medical practitioner, as evidence of the hospital's inclusiveness. Prof. Ikpeme also emphasized that appointments and promotions are based strictly on merit and seniority.
