2026 U-17 Women’s World Cup: Venezuela coach reflects on defeat to the Flamingos

Venezuela were eliminated from the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria. With the match seemingly headed for a penalty shootout, a late spot kick was awarded after Migleydys Bolsegui fouled Oluebube Umejiaku, and Azeezat Oduntan converted to send the Flamingos into the semifinals. Coach Dayana Frías said her team paid for one mistake but praised the tournament experience and her players’ development. She noted that seven players are eligible to return next year.
