International Students: Sorbonne University Says No to Fee Increase

Sorbonne University's board of directors unanimously voted to fully exempt non-European students from the differentiated tuition fees for the 2026-2027 academic year, opposing the national decree of May 19, 2026 that multiplies registration fees by sixteen. Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, a separate institution, chose to apply the increase to cover a budget deficit. Sorbonne University justifies its decision by the desire not to worsen the financial situation of foreign students, already affected by the removal of housing aid. The exemption applies only to the 2026-2027 year and remains within the 30% exemption cap set by the decree.
