A-level maths exam marking to be watched closely by regulator after students 'crestfallen'

Over 20,000 people signed a petition after the A-level maths paper (Pearson Edexcel paper one) was deemed significantly more difficult than previous years. Students reported being 'overwhelmed' by questions requiring multiple layers of reasoning and extended algebraic manipulation. England's exam regulator Ofqual is closely monitoring the marking, and Pearson says grade boundaries will reflect the paper's difficulty.
