Nigerian governors back state police, constitution amendment

The 36 Nigerian governors, under the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), have backed the establishment of state police. After a meeting in Abuja that stretched into early Thursday, they stressed the need for clear constitutional provisions and protection of citizens' rights. Discussions also covered electricity reform and nutrition, but security dominated the deliberations. NGF Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq signed a communiqué noting progress toward a workable state police system.
