"Mali Kura": Goïta bets on the diaspora to build his Transition narrative

On Thursday, July 16, 2026, Assimi Goïta received a Malian diaspora delegation led by Habib Sylla at the Koulouba Palace, as part of the 2nd edition of the International Diaspora Forum in Bamako. Goïta reiterated his commitment to remove obstacles to initiatives by Malians abroad to build "Mali Kura." The diaspora, estimated at 4 to 6 million people, transfers about 700 billion FCFA annually, nearly 5% of GDP. This audience comes after the April 2026 attacks that killed Defense Minister Sadio Camara.
