Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation operations across the state following growing concerns over refuse accumulation in several areas. In a statement issued Thursday by his Special Adviser Gboyega Akosile, the government acknowledged residents' concerns and assured that efforts were underway. Relevant agencies including the Ministry of Environment, LAWMA, and LASEPA have been directed to work round the clock to clear the backlog. Lagos, a rapidly expanding megacity, generates about 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, one of the highest figures in Africa.
