FNDR proposes national preference to curb clandestine departures

The National Democratic and Reformist Front (FNDR), through its president Beda Roger, proposes giving Ivorians priority in hiring when candidates have equal qualifications and improving Ivorian-owned businesses’ access to public contracts, subcontracting and finance. It also calls for public guarantees, technical support and job-focused vocational training for young entrepreneurs and workers. The movement says travel restrictions in transit countries alone will not curb clandestine departures to Europe. Its proposals respond to Alassane Ouattara’s remarks that he had asked Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria to introduce visas for Ivorian nationals.

He argued that low execution of investment spending could allow expenditures to be cut by about 450 billion CFA francs and the deficit improved by 1.6 to 2 percentage points. He denounced cuts to major water-transfer projects, whose funding fell from 50 billion to 8 billion CFA francs, and the removal of funding for 35 health centers and works involving 46 elementary schools and 46 middle schools. Samb also called for greater transparency on debt and the deficit and for lawmakers to receive all documents needed to review the bill.
