Transport Disrupted on Garissa-Mwingi Highway After Attackers Target Passenger Buses

On April 28, 2026, transport operations were temporarily halted on the Garissa-Mwingi highway after a passenger bus was attacked near Ukasi in Kitui County, leaving several people feared injured. Witnesses reported that the bus, traveling between Garissa and Mwingi, was targeted by attackers, causing other vehicles to stop out of safety concerns. This attack comes two days after another incident in Tseikuru, Kitui, where seven people were killed in what is described as retaliatory violence between warring communities.
